Each year, we are treated to new home design trends to try out in our own homes. While designers — and homeowners — can stay on top of these trends, most of them will be out the window within a year or so. In fact, several of the decorating trends we are enjoying now will be on their way out in the near future. In this post, we will share several home design trends that are probably over — and best to avoid.
- White on white
These pure white rooms can look airy and clean. However, they are hard to maintain as other non-white colors tend to creep in. And, have you ever tried to keep a white couch clean? These are slowly going out of style this year.
- TV over the fireplace
Unless your couch is on stilts, your TV over the fireplace is likely in the wrong place. The optimal place for television viewing is eye level when you are sitting down on the sofa. Any higher, and you will be straining your neck as you watch.
- Accent walls
Painting or wallpapering an accent wall might seem like a good idea to add visual interest to a room. But this can also make your room look like a renovation in progress rather than a finished home.
- Farmhouse chic
This design style is one of the most popular ones out there right now. Think reclaimed wood and natural fabrics. However, this style is not for everyone, and it may not stick around much longer.
- Stainless steel appliances
While impressive, stainless steel may be one its way out, too. Designers are starting to create new options, and other finishes — like black and white — may even match better than stainless steel.
Which home design trends do you plan to keep in your home — and which do you plan to leave behind in the rest of 2019?
